DAUNARA CAMP

Okavango Delta

A new luxury option in the southern Okavango on a permanent lagoon.

Dulini Daunara is an intimate luxury safari camp set on a private island in the southern Okavango Delta, within the 125,000-hectare NG32 private concession. The camp sits directly on the edge of a permanent lagoon, with expansive floodplains, islands, channels and woodland surrounding it. Its position close to Maun makes access particularly convenient, with guests arriving by helicopter, while still feeling immersed in a genuinely wild Delta environment. The permanent water in front of camp attracts hippos, elephants, abundant birdlife and other wildlife, meaning that game viewing can begin before guests have even left the camp.

The camp has a distinctly contemporary African style, combining clean architectural lines and sophisticated interiors with natural materials, woven textures, timber, canvas and earthy tones. It is polished and luxurious without becoming overly formal, and the design has been carefully orientated towards the surrounding landscape. Raised wooden walkways connect the accommodation with the main guest areas, spa, gym and yoga deck, creating the feeling of moving through the Delta rather than simply staying beside it. A particularly attractive feature is the way the buildings frame views of the lagoon, allowing the water and wildlife to remain the focus throughout the day.

Accommodation comprises four spacious tented suites, including three standard suites and a two-bedroom family suite, with an additional pilot's room available for larger groups taking the camp exclusively. The suites are positioned to maximise privacy and views, with the beds and seating areas facing large sliding glass-and-mesh doors that open onto full-length private decks overlooking the lagoon. Freestanding baths, indoor and outdoor showers, twin basins, generous dressing areas, air conditioning, minibar facilities and in-room coffee stations provide a high level of comfort, while thoughtful touches such as safari bags and cashmere sweaters for cooler game drives add to the sense of personalised hospitality.

The family suite consists of two interconnected en-suite tents and is particularly well suited to families or close friends travelling together. The camp is small enough to be booked on an exclusive-use basis, making it an appealing option for families, groups of friends.

The main guest area is open, relaxed and beautifully integrated with its setting. A spacious lounge and dining area overlooks the lagoon, while the bar faces an infinity pool and the water beyond. There is an open kitchen, communal dining table, wine cellar and fireplace, together with a sunken firepit for evening drinks and conversation. A jetty extends towards the boating area, while a spa, gym and outdoor yoga deck provide options for relaxing between safari activities. The camp also provides binoculars in the safari vehicles, Wi-Fi and laundry services.

Safari activities make the most of the varied habitats within the concession. Morning and afternoon game drives explore mopane woodland, floodplains, marshes, riverine areas and islands, while night drives offer the opportunity to experience the Delta after dark. Depending on seasonal water conditions, guests can explore the channels and floodplains by mokoro. Guided walking safaris are also on offer.

FACILITIES & ACTIVITIES

We know the guys behind Daunara and they do a splendid job with all their lodges in Africa, I expect this is right up there with the best.
