Expeditions Camp is a semi-permanent safari camp set in the remote northern Okavango Delta, within the wildlife-rich NG12 concession where palm-dotted islands, seasonal floodplains and winding channels create a beautifully untamed landscape. The setting feels wonderfully wild and uncontrived, with big skies, open grasslands and a strong sense of remoteness that defines this part of Botswana.

The camp is designed to echo the romance of a classic 1920s safari. Eight Meru-style expedition tents are pitched directly on the forest floor beneath shady ebony trees, overlooking a seasonal floodplain that attracts a steady flow of wildlife. The tents are spacious and atmospheric, furnished with four-poster beds, Persian rugs and antique-style pieces that create a nostalgic, old-world feel. Each has a fully plumbed en-suite bathroom with hot running water, an indoor shower, flush toilet and a private deck where you can sit quietly and watch animals move across the plains.

The central area is also under canvas, maintaining the expedition theme throughout. A mess tent serves as the heart of the camp, with comfortable lounge seating, a small library and a relaxed dining space. Evenings are typically spent around the fire beneath the stars, sharing stories of the day’s sightings. While the camp embraces a back-to-nature ethos, it still offers thoughtful comforts including charging facilities and connectivity, striking a balance between adventure and ease rather than high-end extravagance.

Activities are varied and immersive, making the most of the Delta’s diverse terrain. Game drives explore the floodplains and woodland in search of elephant, lion, wild dog and plains game, while seasonal mokoro excursions and boating safaris offer a quieter perspective from the water. Night drives reveal the Delta’s nocturnal side, and scenic helicopter flights can be arranged for a breathtaking aerial view of this intricate wetland ecosystem. Guiding is a particular strength, with knowledgeable guides bringing depth and insight to every outing.

Access is typically by light aircraft into a nearby airstrip in the northern Delta, followed by a game drive transfer to camp, immediately immersing you in the wilderness. Operating seasonally when water levels and wildlife concentrations are at their best, Expeditions Camp offers a safari that feels authentic, adventurous and deeply connected to its environment – a modern interpretation of the great African expeditions of the past.
