KINGS POOL

Kwando & Linyanti

Widely regarded as one of the country’s most iconic luxury safari camps in the Linyanti

Lying within the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, bordering Chobe National Park, in a remote corner where the Linyanti River and its oxbow lagoons draw extraordinary concentrations of wildlife. King's Pool is a place defined by water, elephants and space—far from the busier circuits—where the sense of exclusivity and wilderness is immediate and profound.

The lodge itself has a quietly regal feel, living up to its name, which nods to Scandinavian royalty. Built from canvas, wood and thatch, it blends classic safari romance with polished, contemporary luxury. The main areas are set on expansive raised decks that open out toward the lagoon, allowing guests to spend hours simply watching elephants wade through the water or hippos surfacing below. There is a relaxed elegance to the design—nothing flashy, but well considered.

The rooms follow the same philosophy - spacious tented suites, raised on wooden platforms, each with uninterrupted views over the water and their own private plunge pool. Inside there are soft linens, copper and teal accents, and large open bathrooms that include indoor and outdoor showers. The feeling is one of privacy and immersion, with wildlife frequently passing directly in front of the room. Guests often comment that the suites strike a rare balance—luxurious without losing the authenticity of a traditional safari camp.

Facilities at the camp are designed to enhance the sense of place rather than distract from it. A swimming pool is tucked into the decking, there is a small spa for treatments, and dining shifts between the main area, private decks and the open-air boma under the stars. One of the most renown features of King's Pool is the underground hide positioned at water level, where guests can sit quietly as elephants approach so close that you can see the texture of their skin and even the detail of their feet as they drink. It’s an experience frequently described as unforgettable, and one that elevates the camp beyond a typical safari lodge.

Activities include game drives—both day and night— the Linyanti known for its high densities of elephant, buffalo and predators including lion, leopard and wild dog. Guided walks offer a slower, more interpretive experience, while seasonal boat cruises on their double decker barge provide a completely different perspective of the landscape. Birding is particularly strong, and the combination of land and water activities makes for a well-rounded safari that changes throughout the day.

Getting to King’s Pool from Maun or Kasane is easy, by light aircraft transfer into the Linyanti, followed by a short game drive into camp. The remoteness is a key part of its appeal—there are no crowds, no traffic, and very few other vehicles, which allows for a far more private and flexible safari experience than in national parks. Ultimately, people choose King’s Pool not just for the luxury, but for the combination of location, wildlife density and exclusivity.
