MAXA CAMP

Maxa is a lovely and more down-to-earth camp, literally on ground level on a sandy base which feels very relaxed - its not the massive designer lodge that is dominating Botswana - a pleasant change. It accommodates up to 12 guests in five tented rooms, including a family unit. Each tent is set on decks and features both indoor en-suite and open-air bathrooms. The family tent comprises two bedrooms with shared facilities. The camp's design emphasizes a harmonious blend with nature, utilizing canvas roofs, traditional clay walls, and locally crafted furniture to create an elegant yet understated ambiance.

The heart of the camp features separate lounging and dining areas linked by sandy walkways. A wood-fired oven built into a termite mound produces fresh bread and pastries daily. There is also an outdoor relaxation area with a plush daybed and hammock-style netting offers sweeping views over the lagoon.

Guests at Maxa Camp are invited to immerse themselves in a variety of safari experiences that highlight the extraordinary biodiversity of the Okavango Delta. Day and night game drives with expert guides offer the opportunity to explore the dynamic terrain and encounter an array of wildlife, including elephants, sable antelope, and a resident coalition of lions. For a more tranquil perspective, mokoro excursions—traditional dugout canoe rides—allow guests to glide silently through the Delta’s channels, offering close encounters with aquatic life and bird species in an environment untouched by engine noise. Guided walking safaris present a chance to slow down and observe the finer details of the bush, from animal tracks and medicinal plants to the behaviors of smaller creatures. In addition to the natural wonders, you can visit the neighbouring community; the Bukakhwe people, who offer enriching insights into the traditions and customs of those who have long called this region home.

Access to Maxa is via a scenic helicopter transfer from Shinde Airstrip. The journey offers a breathtaking aerial view of the Okavango’s intricate network of lagoons, islands, and seasonal floodplains, setting the tone for an unforgettable safari experience.

The camp is powered primarily by solar energy and features a natural water purification system to minimize its ecological impact.
