NGOMA SAFARI LODGE

Chobe River

Our choice for a luxury Chobe lodge on the quieter western side with a private area.

Ngoma Safari Lodge is a luxurious, boutique safari lodge situated in the Chobe Forest Reserve in northern Botswana, on the western edge of Chobe National Park. The lodge occupies an elevated position overlooking the Chobe River and the vast Chobe floodplain, giving it one of the most impressive viewpoints in the region. From the lodge and individual suites, guests can look across the open floodplain towards Namibia, while elephant and other wildlife can often be seen moving across the landscape below.

The lodge is approximately 30–40 minutes by road from Kasane Airport, making it a convenient option for a Chobe safari while still feeling remote and secluded. Ngoma underwent a major refurbishment during 2026 and reopened in May 2026, so the current lodge is fresh yet retained the property's greatest strength — its extraordinary position and intimate atmosphere.

Ngoma is designed as a small, boutique bush lodge, with the main guest area and accommodation carefully positioned to maximise the views. The architecture combines thatched roofs, natural stone, timber and local materials with contemporary African interiors. The elevated main lodge sits beneath the spreading branches of an old baobab and incorporates a comfortable lounge, bar and dining area, with extensive outdoor decks looking across the floodplain. There is a swimming pool and sun deck, an elevated wildlife-viewing platform and an outdoor boma where dinners can be enjoyed under the stars. The views are such an important part of the experience that guests can spend considerable time simply sitting on the deck watching elephants and other animals moving across the plains.

Ngoma has just eight river-facing luxury suites, together with family accommodation, making it deliberately small and personal. The suites are individually positioned to provide privacy and unobstructed views of the Chobe floodplain. Their interiors combine natural textures and rustic African influences with contemporary furnishings and plenty of space.

The suites are particularly impressive because they function almost as private viewing platforms. Each has a spacious bedroom and living area opening onto a private deck, together with a small private "refresh and relax" plunge pool. Bathrooms include a deep bath, double vanity and both indoor and outdoor showers. Air conditioning, ceiling fans, minibar facilities, tea and coffee-making facilities and Wi-Fi add the comforts expected of a luxury lodge.

The lodge places considerable emphasis on personal service and our guests have experienced this first hand. The main attraction is the Chobe National Park and Chobe River, and Ngoma offers both land- and water-based safari experiences. Game drives explore Chobe National Park and the surrounding reserve, where the region's famous elephant population is a major draw. The area also supports buffalo, lion, leopard, giraffe, zebra, various antelope species and prolific birdlife. The elevated position of the lodge means wildlife viewing can also begin before guests leave camp.

Boat safaris on the Chobe River provide an excellent contrast to the game drives. The river attracts enormous numbers of elephants during the dry season, as well as hippo, crocodile and a remarkable variety of waterbirds. The combination of a game drive in the national park and a river safari is one of the major advantages of staying at Ngoma. Walking activities are also offered.

Overall, Ngoma Safari Lodge is particularly well suited to travellers looking for a luxurious and intimate Chobe experience with outstanding views. It combines the wildlife richness of Chobe National Park with sophisticated accommodation and an elevated, panoramic setting. The recent refurbishment has further strengthened the lodge's appeal, while its small size, private plunge pools, excellent guiding and consistently outstanding guest feedback make it one of the more attractive luxury options in the Chobe region.
