QOROKWE
Okavango Delta
A mosaic of floodplains, woodlands and permanent channels creates a remarkably productive wildlife area
Sitting in the south-eastern reaches of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, on a private concession positioned between the Gomoti and Santantadibe river systems. This location is key to its appeal: a mosaic of floodplains, woodlands and permanent channels creates a remarkably productive wildlife area, often described as one of the Delta’s best for consistent game viewing. The name “Qorokwe” itself—loosely meaning “the place where the buffalo broke through the bush into the water”—hints at the richness of the landscape and the density of animals that move through it.
The camp has a distinctly contemporary feel compared to more traditional safari lodges, yet still feels in tune with its surroundings. Raised on wooden decking and linked by walkways, the main area looks out over a lagoon where wildlife is often visible throughout the day. The design is clean and understated—what many describe as “eco-chic”—with open lounge and dining spaces that invite in light, air and the constant movement of the Delta beyond. Guests frequently remark on how beautiful and calming the setting is, with the infinity pool and deck becoming natural gathering points between activities.
The rooms follow this same balance of style and authenticity. Modern, spacious tented suites, elevated above the ground, create a feel that is both luxurious and rooted in the bush. Each suite is positioned for privacy and views, with indoor and outdoor showers and shaded decks that catch the breeze. There is also a larger family unit with its own private plunge pool. Guests often describe the rooms as “divine” and thoughtfully designed.
Facilities are intentionally low-key but refined, designed to complement your environment rather than distract from it. The main deck, bar and dining areas are social without being busy, and meals often highlight fresh, locally inspired flavours. Evenings might shift to the boma under the stars, while quieter moments are spent watching animals from the pool or lounge. Service is consistently highlighted in guest feedback, with a genuine warmth and attentiveness.
Activities at Qorokwe are on a private concession so both day and night game drives are done, as well as walking safaris, offering a more flexible and intimate experience than in public areas. The diversity of habitats supports a wide range of wildlife, from large herds of elephant and buffalo to predators including lion and cheetah. Seasonal water levels also allow for mokoro excursions and boating, adding another dimension to the safari. Guests frequently speak about the quality of guiding and the intensity of sightings—stories of following lion hunts or encountering predators up close are not uncommon.
Getting to Qorokwe is by light aircraft from Maun or Kasane, followed by a game drive transfer into camp. This fly-in access reinforces the sense of remoteness—there are no roads leading here, and once you arrive, you are completely immersed in the landscape.
