OKAVANGO WEST TO EAST 9 nts
Nxamaseri Island Lodge sits on a private island in the permanent waters of Botswana’s upper Okavango Delta. A small, exclusive lodge, perfect destination to explore the Okavango River for birds, scenic beauty and fishing for Tiger Fish - and then of course visiting Tsodilo Hills is a must - a magical place. Combine that with the central Okavango Delta, staying at Xugana Island Lodge, where you can do both water activities and game drives - followed by Camp Xakanaka, in Moremi Game Reserve.
Collectively this safari provides an incredible cross section of activities, experiences and game viewing - and excellent value.
Start and end the trip in Maun [or Kasane] and fly between camps on light aircraft - with spectacular views of the wilderness below.
Spend three days at Nxamaseri staying in luxury accommodation with great food, all overlooking the pristine waters and floodplains of the Okavango Delta.
There is no better way to experience the stillness and beauty of the Okavango Delta than to be poled on the water silently, gliding just inches above the crystal clear surface, eye-level with dragon flies, reed frogs and water lilies and within touching distance of the myriad of colourful fish that swim just below the surface. [Seasonal - High water levels are required]
Nxamaseri Island Lodge has spectacular birding throughout the year. The most exceptional birding months are from September to February, before the new water arrives.
Guided walks are offered on nearby islands, accessed by boat or mokoro, giving you the opportunity to experience the intimacy and piece of unspoiled Africa.
One hour from Nxamaseri Island Lodge is one of Botswana’s greatest treasures. The mystical and spiritual Tsodilo Hills, sacred to the San people of Northern Botswana and are adorned with over 4000 ancient San paintings.
Xugana Island Lodge is in a private concession offering a range of activities giving you the chance to experience a true Okavango Delta safari. Explore the crystal-clear waterways by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) or motorboat for the chance to enjoy the magnificent variety of bird, plant and reptile species found in the area.
Your experienced guide will also take you on a guided nature walk on surrounding islands in the concession, giving you the chance to experience nature up close and personal. Day and night game drives are also available when water levels allow within the private concession for a chance to search for the prolific wildlife found in the area. The prime location of Camp Xakanaxa (pronounced Ka-ka-na-ka) on the banks of the Khwai River on the Xakanaxa Lagoon, in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, makes it one of the very few safari camps that offers guests an authentic, year-round Okavango Delta land and water safari experience.
The ancient riverine forests, open savannah, serpentine channels and seasonal floodplains that surround the camp make for a varied habitat of exceptional fauna and flora. The camp is one of few offering a year-round land and water game-viewing experience, in open 4×4 safari vehicles or powerboats.
