The Okavango Delta is experiencing an exceptional flood year in 2026, with heavy rains in both Angola and Botswana sending a strong surge of water into the system. Floodplains are already full, channels are expanding, and areas that have been dry in recent seasons are once again coming to life—creating a powerful sense of renewal and revival across the landscape. This abundance of water supports grazing, reconnects ecosystems, and sets the stage for a vibrant safari season, with rich wildlife concentrations and outstanding water-based experiences.

However, these same conditions are also presenting real logistical challenges for lodges and mobile operators. With the Delta already saturated, additional floodwaters are spreading more widely and lingering longer, resulting in flooded tracks, limited road access, and some airstrips becoming temporarily unusable.  For lodges and mobile safari operators, this means adapting quickly—rerouting logistics, relying more heavily on alternative air access, and in some cases adjusting itineraries to work around inaccessible areas. many folks will have their trips compromised!

Overall, while the 2026 flood is bringing a spectacular sense of life and transformation to the Delta, it is also a dynamic and complex season on the ground—one that requires flexibility but ultimately rewards travellers with an open mind to see the Okavango in one of the most beautiful , water-rich states.
